Growth mindset is an incredibly interesting topic about cognition and learning. I believe that when it comes to the growth mindset spectrum, I am somewhere in the middle. I feel like when it comes to challenge I tend to welcome it but also have trouble following through in certain things. It could be that the fact that I welcome challenge has to do with my background in mixed martial arts. My entire life I have been training and each day ends up being a challenge that surpasses the previous day. So, everyday I would walk into the academy and look forward to the challenge of fighting someone stronger than me but I would also find myself in a state of excitement of the thought of learning something new and fine tuning my skills. However, when it comes to school I feel like if something is easy for certain subjects, I lose all drive in the class. When it comes to anything else I tend to push for more challenge and more knowledge. In the past 14 years of schooling, I've noticed a few things when it comes to me as a learner. I find that if a subject isn't particularly interesting, I do not want to learn about it, I don't care what it is, I won't put in the effort. On the other hand, when I find myself in a class that I am very interested in, I choose to put in 110% of my energy in learning the subject and striving to excel and challenge myself on a daily basis to learn the new thing. When it comes to learning new things to me, I feel like its always difficult but I try not to let that fact that I may not improve get me down, I try to stay patient and continue to push through. The biggest challenge to learning something new to me has to relate to what I have said before, where if the subject doesn't appeal to my interests then I'm necessarily not going to try my hardest to learn it. I do think it will be interesting to learn a lot more about growth mindset because it really is fascinating. To be honest, the class I am most worried about this semester has to be this one, I don't understand why but I think it will be the hardest class. I hope that won't be the case but its too early to tell at this point.

Austin, the idea of a growth mindset is a very interesting topic. Having a growth mindset is very important to succeed and keep moving in life. Learning new things can be very tough but having a growth mindset can change the way you do learn new things. Knowing that you can and keep telling yourself you can do instead of you cant can change the game.
ReplyDeleteHi Austin it is interesting to see how the challenges that we face everyday can change our view to how we face future challenges. It was also interesting to see how the mind deals with different subjects and categories like physical challenges versus school or other places that tend to be more of a mental challenge.
